Coping with PTSD may not be as difficult as you would think. Provided you get the right tools and the proper treatment. However, if you continue to fool yourself, it can become life-threatening.
My story is simple yet with some complications. I began my career in public safety in 1989 as a volunteer firefighter. The town I volunteered for was trying to keep the ambulance service running. They offered all new members the option to get their Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. This was the time when we looked at someone and called them “burnt out” or they were suffering from “burnout.”
The fact that you have been diagnosed with PTSD is not the end of the world. I have spent time in one of the best programs in the world getting treatment for PTSD. I have been learned for some of the doctors, nurses, counselors, therapists, and yes patients. You can live with PTSD.
Coupling Skills Help
Coping skills can help you refocus on the present time. Learning these skills and mastering them will not happen overnight. As a bodybuilder, it will take you time and trading of your brain. Like the bodybuilder building muscle. You will begin using parts of your brain that have become dormant.
I also like to think of it like strengthens your heart. To make this pump become more efficient we walk, run, or ride a bike. Some type of cardio workout. Your brain needs the right exercise to become more efficient. Using some of these coupling skills will help exercise your brain.
Here are a few things you can try:
- Writing a blog helps your creativity
- Playing games makes you strategize
- Keeping a daily journal helps you set a goal for the day as well as log your daily events
- Doing a puzzle helps with some cognitive thoughts
- Meditation helps you focus, this is one I find most difficult
I look at it this way. To help you cope with PTSD, “You do you.”
